DAB device planned for mobiles
News brought to you by Skint Tariffs, providers of price comparison for cheap international calls.Digital radio listeners could soon get their favourite radio stations to their mobile phone, as Channel 4 seeks to launch a plug-in DAB for handsets and media players.
The broadcaster, which is launching its own digital radio channel, is talking to electronics companies about producing a device which would plug into a mobile handset.
According to The Times, Channel 4 has entered these talks in the hopes of speeding the uptake of digital radio and hopes to reach young people through the device.
BBC and Channel 4 were recently forced to reiterate their support for the digital radio system after the UK's largest commercial radio group GCap announced it would leave the format.
However, Channel 4 has already delayed its digital music station to the end of July, with two more stations set to launch in 2009.
If the device becomes reality, it would mean that users could catch a whole range of radio stations as well as make cheap international calls from their handset.
