BBC iPlayer gets 75m views
News brought to you by Skint Tariffs, providers of cheap broadband deals.The BBC iPlayer service saw its popularity skyrocket earlier this year, with recent figures revealing 20 per cent growth between March and April of this year.
Viewers of the BBC's programmes online made 21 million requests of the service in April compared to 17.2 million in March.
Since the iPlayer was launched in December of last year, it has received more than 75 million requests, BBC's director of future media and technology Ashley Highfield revealed at the Google Zeitgeist forum.
On average 1.4 million users took advantage of the service, a rise of 300,000 compared to March and almost twice the figure for January.
The top most downloaded or streamed programmes were Doctor Who and the Apprentice, though it was not just the top shows that attracted users.
According to the figures, shows outside the top 20 accounted for more than a quarter of requests and the alternative BBC3 landed six shows in the top 20.
