15.6 million more get online with broadband
News brought to you by Skint Tariffs, providers of cheap broadband deals.Britons are increasingly getting online, with record numbers of people using broadband connections, according to the latest figures from telecommunications regulator Ofcom.
The number of broadband connections rose by 15.6 million, according to the data.
Ofcom's fourth quarter report also reveals that Virgin Media, which offers deals to customers through sikinttariffs.com, has become the second largest broadband provider.
In first place was still BT, which has control of the basic telecommunications infrastructure, though this privileged position could change as Ofcom has recommended the deregulation of much of the market.
Firms are also offering more promotions in order to secure their share of the market, according to Michael Phillips of the BroadbandChoices website.
He said: "As the broadband market becomes increasingly saturated internet service providers (ISPs) will be looking to increase their customer base by enticing consumers away from rival providers."
However, he added that the market is not yet completely saturated and there is room for growth among the 17 million people who still cannot connect to the internet at home or at work.
