17% would shop by phone
News brought to you by Skint Tariffs, providers of price comparison for cheap international calls. Shopping has already been changed by the advent of online stores and could be changed further, as almost one in five UK consumers said they would make purchases from their phone.
A survey by Lightspeed Research, revealed that 17 per cent of Britons would be willing to buy products or services from their phone.
Men proved to be more willing to try the new way of buying, with 22 per cent expressing an interest compared to 12 per cent of women.
This prospect suggests that as well as traditional communications and making cheap international calls, mobile phone owners are willing to increase the uses they have for their handsets.
Shopping from a mobile phone has distinct advantages as almost everyone always carries one, and they have achieved greater penetration than PCs.
David Day, Lightspeed Research CEO Europe said: "This research suggests that the mobile phone could become a viable way for retailers to reach their customers. The 24/7 nature of the mobile phone, a device that many people have with them all the time, and the increase in Internet-ready phones offers a real opportunity for retailers to match their offer to the products and services customers may want to buy in this way."
