Fake and unofficial phones circulating in UK
Consumers looking to get a mobile handset should look to authorised dealers or go through the mobile networks which offer deals through skinttariffs.com after it was revealed that there are thousands of counterfeit and unofficial phones in circulation in the UK.An analysis of auction site eBay by Envisional revealed that of the three most popular phone makers on the market, Nokia was by far the most copied brand, with 2,250 vendors offering unofficially sold phones.
"It is vitally important that consumer awareness of counterfeit goods is raised. It can be very difficult for buyers to tell the difference between a fake and genuine product," said Elizabeth May, vice-president of the Authentics Foundation.
"However even when consumers are aware that an item is fake there is often an ambiguous relationship with counterfeiters and buyers are prepared to purchase a product as a good deal regardless of its origin."
The study also found LG and Samsung phones offered, with unofficial phones more likely to be fakes, according to the report.
