Mobile phones get 'prayer alerts'
News brought to you by Skint Tariffs, providers of price comparison for cheap international calls. Mobile phone customers could use their handsets to join other faithful when they talk to god.
As well using their handsets to make cheap international calls, Christians can now sign up to a service which will allow them to pray at the same time as up to 500,000 others.
The service, offered by Ecumen in conjunction with the Welsh Christian charity Prayer in Action, will send out text messages to subscribers with a theme and a time for the communal prayer session.
Carl Brettle, chief executive officer of Prayer in Action, said: "In a world of uncertainty it's great to know that the Prayer in Action mobile texting service will be able instantly to mobilise thousands of people to pray into the key issues that face society today.
"With over 90 per cent of the UK owning a mobile phone, gone are the days when we have to wait for a letter to arrive or an email to be opened.
"The Prayer Mobile text service pulls together one of the oldest traditions known to mankind with one of the newest most prevalent technologies available. Prayer is only a text away."
