iPhone defies credit crunch
News brought to you by Skint Tariffs, providers of price comparison for cheap international callsThe Apple iPhone, available in the UK with contracts with operator O2 - which offers deals through skinttariffs.com - has seemingly dodged the economic slowdown affecting other brands.
While Apple sold 1.7 million iPhones in the first quarter of 2008, rival Motorola experienced an almost 40 per cent drop in handset sales.
Motorola sales fell to a 4-year low even though it has launched six new devices in the first quarter including cheaper W-Series devices as well as the Rockr U9 music phone.
The iPhone boasts slick design and, as well as allowing users to use access codes to make cheap international calls, has a range of functions.
It includes a music and media player, can surf the internet and has the features of a personal organiser.
Apple chief executive Steve Jobs said the first quarter of 2008 was the strongest first quarter in the firm's history.
