Making homes more energy efficient can lead to money savings on energy bills according to experts.

Nigel's Eco Store founder Nigel Berman, told Choices website that making reductions to energy use and saving money "go hand in hand".

Energy saving products may initially seem to be more expensive, but in the long run, lead to financial benefits.

Compared to traditional light bulbs, energy saving models last longer and use less energy. Putting insulation in lofts and wall cavities may seem an expensive step but, with heating being one of the biggest drain on energy in the home, it can lead to utility bill savings.

Mr Berman said that by switching to eco-products consumers could save almost £400 a year on bills.

He added: "We need to switch our thinking into thinking about the whole life of a product and the fact that things of good quality may cost a bit more, but they last longer.

"I think that's part of the eco ethos. Being eco-friendly is partly about looking after the things that you've got."
