Nokia profits up 25%
News brought to you by Skint Tariffs, providers of price comparison for cheap international calls. Mobile phone handset maker Nokia poster profits 25 per cent higher than in the first quarter of last year.
Strong demand for handsets as people want to sign up to network providers such as T-Mobile, Orange, Vodafone and Virgin – all of which offer deals through skinttariffs.com—saw the Finnish company's sales rise 13 per cent.
Nokia's share of the market dropped a bit from 40 per cent at the end of 2007 to 39 per cent, which is still higher than the same period last year when 36 per cent of mobile phone handsets bought were manufactured by the firm.
The company, which produces handsets with a variety of functions including MP3 players, cameras and even gaming said that it expected to regain market share.
"While we will not have major new products shipping in the second quarter, we expect a number of new products to be shipping and to have a positive impact on our results in the second half of 2008," Nokia chief executive Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo said.
Customers looking to make cheap international calls can use the skinttariffs.com access code from their Nokia.
