Some 1,000 people were questioned by ISPreview for the survey, which revealed that 79.4 per cent thought that there was demand for the faster broadband services.
Only 10.6 per cent of the respondents said that higher speeds were unnecessary while the remaining ten per cent simply said that they were unsure.
Consumers can currently find home broadband deals with BT, UK Online, Virgin Broadband, Mad as a Flash and AOL at Carphone Warehouse, through skinttariffs.com.
According to the information website, the survey shows that internet service providers (ISPs) have to keep moving to keep up with customer demand.
According to ISPreview: "The result suggests that ISPs who fail to keep pace with the latest technologies risk being left behind as customers seek to migrate onto faster alternatives."
