Credit card limits cut by £3.1bn
News brought to you by Skint Tariffs, providers of price comparison for cheap international calls. Credit card customers have been advised to consider switching their providers to save money as it was revealed that Britons had their limits lowered by £3.1 billion in the past six months.
The new figures, shown by the MoneyExpert website revealed that 1.8 million people with credit cards saw the limit on their accounts cut by an average of £1,600.
Customers in their 20s were the most likely to see their limits cut.
"Credit card companies are becoming stricter in who they lend to and the amount of money their customers can borrow," said Sean Gardner of MoneyExpert.
"Overstretched consumers might look to resort to credit in a bid to make ends meet but they should not rely on it as a way of keeping spending."
He suggested people consider switching cards to save money but warned that it was not a long term solution to debt, noting that if switching was having no effect on finances, it was time to find a repayment plan.
