3% get super-fast broadband
News brought to you by Skint Tariffs, providers of cheap broadband deals.Only three per cent of UK users can access broadband speeds of over 8Mb, according to a recent survey.
The study, conducted by Nielsen, revealed that the same amount of people actually have access to the super fast broadband as the amount of people still using dial-up connections of less than 128Kb.
Just over half (52 per cent) of Britons experience broadband speeds of between 512Kb and 2Mb, while about one third have between 2Mb and 8Mb connections.
Quocirca analysist Rob Bamforth told ITPro that the figures did not surprise him.
"We're poor at investing in infrastructure. Whether it's train lines, airport baggage facilities or anything that requires something big, broad and pervasive, we're not good at it because a lot of businesses like to cherry pick," he said.
"In order to build a decent infrastructure you need more than that. You need a different model for investing in order to get maximum reach, and we've been poor at that."
