Mobile makers 'aping Apple'

Mobile makers 'aping Apple'News brought to you by Skint Tariffs, providers of price comparison for cheap international calls.

Mobile phone companies are busy developing and bringing out new handsets to rival the iPhone, according to the New York Times.

The iPhone, which brought the touchscreen and a multiplicity of functions to the handset, is now being mimicked or exceeded by the latest offerings from various manufacturers.

The trend suggests that as well as being able to make cheap international calls from their handset using a skinttariffs.com access number, consumers are getting used to using their phone to access the internet and experience media.

At the CTIA Wireless 2008 show, Nokia was exhibiting a phone with Internet radio, access to multimedia Web sites and eight gigabytes of memory.

Samsung's new Instinct, which has design features reminiscent of the Apple phone it is hoping to rival, can show live TV and can connect a PC to the internet.

With all the new features available, Robbie Bach, president of Microsoft's entertainment and devices division told the newspaper: "It's a consumer market. Everyone’s needs are evolving. Consumers, in the end, will get what they want."
