Utility budgets 'top for saving money'

The survey of customers conducted by Norwich & Peterborough Building Society found that planning for such bills and setting money aside for occasions like Christmas was the top tip.
Unplugging electrical items so they are not permanently on standby was the second piece of advice, while planning what food to buy before going to the supermarket was the third tip.
Making up the top five was advice to make the most of tax free Isa allowances and check that monthly direct debits are correct.
"It is refreshing to see that it is often the simple tips that can prove most popular such as changing your shopping habits, or saving on the electricity bills," said Gary Lacey from the building society.
"By adhering to just a few of the tips our customers suggested, families can save little and often, which, in the long run, could add up to a decent amount of money."
A recent report from Cahoot found that Britons waste £231 million a year because they impulse-buy souvenirs while on holiday.
