More women travelling alone

Females are set to be the ones making international calls home as they become more confident about travelling overseas on their own.
Eco-tourism promoter responsibletravel.com says that it is "great to see" that more women are holidaying abroad, particularly as many are proving to be environmentally conscious.
Last month, the website revealed that it had seen an 87 per cent year on year increase in the number of people enquiring about community based holidays abroad in 2006/07.
Kristina Pentland, communications manager at responsibletravel.com, said: "I think it's long been recognised that women wear the trousers when it comes to holiday decisions but this shows a real concern by women when it comes to the environmental and social issues around tourism, causing them to choose ethical travel over mass tourism."
She added that travelling without friends, family or a partner can be "incredibly rewarding" and that you don't have to be backpacking to go it alone.
