First passengers use mobile phones on flights
News brought to you by Skint Tariffs, providers of price comparison for cheap international calls. Passengers flying with Arab airline Emirates will, from today, be able to use their mobile phones while onboard.
Those travelling between Dubai and Casablanca have been given the green light to chat at their leisure for the very first time when flying with the carrier.
Bjorn-Taale Sandberg, chief executive of AeroMobile, which built the technology to allow passengers to take and make calls, said: "We believe that the ability to communicate efficiently, easily and safely when on board flights will become an everyday feature of business and leisure travel very quickly.
"We have gone to considerable lengths to ensure that all safety and regulatory issues have been fully addressed, so we are pleased that Emirates has been able to join us in being first past the post in offering a full voice call service."
Travellers will be urged to ensure their phones are set on silent mode so they do not create too much disturbance towards other passengers during the flight.
Today, Australian carrier Qantas announced that it would allow customers to make and pick up text messages and emails from their phones and laptops later this year - but not make personal calls.
