With experts predicting that the budget announcement tomorrow will herald an era of restrained consumption, people will be looking to save money in a variety of ways beyond making cheap international calls.
Jasmine Birties, a TV money expert, told the Mirror that within the space of a weekend, people could make decisions which would save them up to a grand.
She said: "There are lots of little changes everyone can make.
"Setting aside an evening or a day across the weekend to do your research and switching a few things over, you can make yourself up to grand in a day."
She suggested taking the food from the back of supermarket shelves as they have a later sell-by date and always buying the loose fruit and vegetables as the pre-packaged versions tend to be more expensive.
And, shopping when hungry is a big no-no, since people who shop on an empty stomach tend to spend 20 per cent more on average.
Rail travellers under the age of 26 who spend more than £72 a year on travel can make savings, the Young Person's rail cards cost £24.
